Reformation Day Trick or Treating

With all the free books and teachings for Reformation day it feels like Trick or Treating out here on the web today.  Here is a roundup of some of the free things that are worth looking into.

Better hurry, many of these turn back into a Pumpkin at midnight.

Free at Last, the ESV Study Bible is Free at Last

Or at least for the month of March you can try out the ESV Study Bible Online for free.  Yes that is right, unlimited access to the full ESVSB.  Sure it is yet another marketing attempt on this much marketed Study Bible, but it is a great chance to check it out and see if it might be a help to you in your study of God’s Word.

Crossway announced yesterday that they were making the Online ESV Study Bible available free to anywhere, anywhere, for the entire month of March.

A couple of features worth noting:

  • You can listen to the audio of the ESV from narrator David Cochran Heath.
  • You can take and save your own notes in the Online ESVSB.
  • You can highlight words and verses in several different colors.

All you have to do is go to their website and sign in, leaving the code blank, and you can test drive the ESV Study Bible.

Deal of the Day

Tough economic times got you down?  Maybe a little Mozart will help.  Amazon is offering the MP3 Download of this album for $2.99.  You can listen to a samlple of the music on the website as well.  The music is performed by a variety of artists and Orchestras from London Philharmonic to individual artists.  I am not a huge classical music listener, but I like to have some in my library.  99 songs for under $3 seemed like a pretty good deal.

Happy Reformation Week from Ligonier

Ligonier’s blog announced this today:

Celebrate Reformation Week with a genuine leather Reformation Study Bible (ESV) for a donation of any amount. Click here.

On October 31, 1517, a young monk named Martin Luther nailed ninety-five theses to the castle church door in Wittenberg, Germany. He addressed the abuses of the sale of indulgences and this event proved to provide the catalyst for the Protestant Reformation. In an era when the Gospel had been eclipsed by a system of human merit, Martin Luther, John Calvin, and the other magisterial reformers proclaimed to the people of God that we are declared righteous in the sight of the Lord through faith alone in the person and work of Christ Jesus.

At Ligonier Ministries, we are celebrating Reformation Week (Oct. 27-Nov.2) by offering a genuine leather Reformation Study Bible (ESV) for a donation of any amount. Retailing at $69.99, this is the study Bible for the next generation of reformers.

ESV Bible Reading Plans RSS Feed

For those that read blogs and use the internet frequently, RSS feeds are great to keep up on what is new.  I have mentioned it before, but I am a big fan of Google Reader for managing my RSS feeds.  It is a great time saver.  The ESV Bible now has RSS feeds for a variety of daily bible reading plans.  There are also feeds for Verse of the day and weekly memorization verses.

Free MacArthur Book

Years ago the leaders of our church established a goal to put good books in the hands of the people.  Therefore we opened a bookshop in our church building to offer books of solid substance at as low of a cost as possible.  The internet has opened other avenues as well, and there is no lower cost than free!

ESV Study Bible

I received a free sample of the ESV study bible over the gospel of Luke today.  It looks to be a very helpful new study tool and has wonderful reviews from many evangelical leaders, including, Jerry Bridges, John Piper, Al Mohler, Mark Driscoll, and CJ Mahaney.   It appears to be an OT Surveay, NT Survey, and Study Bible all rolled up into one volume.  The intro, outline, and charting of key themes before each book are well done.  The color maps and diagrams are outstanding.  The study notes are helpful.  I need to study more, but I do not find them quite as helpful as the New Geneva Study Bible or even MacArthur’s, but they are on par with these study bibles.  If you are interested in purchasing one through Edgewood Bookshop please let me know, because it looks as if we will have to pre-order or wait.  It retails from $49.99 for hardback, to $239.99 for Calfskin.   Bonded leather retails for $74.99 and genuine for $94.99.   Early orders should receive discounts ranging between 30-40% off.

Firefox: The New World Recoder Holder?

If you still use IE it is time to make a change and take back internet browsing!  The software will be available at 10 AM PST.

Download Day

I have the new version now and am loving it!  Try it out.  My favorite thing about firefox is the search engine bar and the BibleGateway plugin.  It makes passage lookup a breeze when you are researching and browsing.
