What a great time of year! College football is in full swing, the combines are harvesting the corn, and IU basketball is set t0
kick off tonight. There is a lot of buzz this year, with some picking the Hoosiers to win the BigTen. I will be there tonight, keeping alive an annual tradition that goes back 7 years, IU’s Midnight Madness and White Castle afterwards! Let’s Go Hoosiers!!
And here is a flash back to the old glory days:

Love this time of year — good weather and good sports. Can’t believe college basketball is already starting. Sweet that you’ll be there, but it’s too bad we’ll get to see IU lose to UK again this December. Have fun tonight. Is it still actually at midnight? Watch out for flying chairs.
Ben,
I enjoyed your post on marriage today. That was a good laugh. Midnight Madness is now 10 o’clockish madness. NCAA changed the rule a few years back. I think we ought to have a blog bet on the IU vs UK game this year. If IU wins you have to post a picture of IU that I would chose, if UK wins I have to post a wildcat Picture of your choosing.
You’re on. Better get your blue-and-white page themes ready. Although, it remains to be seen how good we’ll actually be when we play games that count with a new coach. Plus, it’s halfway through October and we’re still talking about Kentucky football rather than just automatically fast-forwarding to basketball. Wonders will never cease . . .
On the heels of the fun time at Midnight Madness comes the news of more phone improprieties from our coaching staff. It remains to be seen the full implications, but what a discouragement! I really thought that Sampson was going to turn this program around. Now I really must question his integrity. Now it will be interesting to see who stays, who goes, who he can continue to get (Zeller to PU or UNC) or if he will even be around. Could be a good year without distractions.
I’m with you Mark, I’m discouraged by this mornings news. At first I was somewhat shocked to read Bob Kravitz calling for Sampson to be replaced but the more I think about it, in light of his past improprieties, I’m not so sure he doesn’t have it right. It is sad to see what has happened to that program since the coach left. Oh well maybe we can get Alford back someday?
I was really discouraged by this news as well. If you are on probation, you just don’t let things like this happen. If you are honest, you don’t let things like this happen. While I was glad to see the IU fans boo the rappers prior to the team coming out (it was good to see they still cared about basketball), it will be interesting to see what the response is to this rap sheet. The problem as far as I can see is that Sampson best asset as a coach has been his recruiting, but now we find out it is because he doesn’t seem to follow the rules. Sure it is not the same as paying players, but rules are rules.
