Thoughts on Church Growth
Posted in Random, The Church by ministerandy on May 17th, 2007
Several quotes have been rattling around in my head lately and I am trying to put them together.
- It is fairly easy to build a church centered around compassion. Innately, people usually want to do good to others in order to feel better about themselves.
- It is fairly easy to build a church centered around restrictions. It also is true that people usually want to find fault in others to make them feel good about themselves.
- It is more difficult to build a church centered around Christ. People often don’t like the true Christ because trusting him requires dying to self.
What are your thought?

i would say that a church built around Christ will appear to outsiders to be a church built around compassion.
i would also say that the amount of compassion a church exhibits is a good measurement of whether or not it is built around Christ.
can a church be built around Christ and not be compassionate?

The point is not to exclude compassion, but a church centered on compassion does not necessarily center on Christ. It is easy to raise money for the poor, or to get people excited about helping the needy.
But you are right, if a church is Christ centered mercy and compassion will flow out of that.
