The Da Vinci Code

While I have never read the book, with the release of the blockbuster film coming out I have come across some great links that counter this “fictional” novel. I admit I like Tom Hanks and Ron Howard and mystery movies really intrige me, but the temptation to see this movie is low. Whether or not someone calls it fiction, I would never go to see a movie that made my wife out to be a liar, a sexual deviant, or anything less than who she is. With that in mind, why would I want to go and be entertained by fiction about my savior that makes him to be a liar, not God, and eliminates him from being my savior. But it is just fiction many will argue. I still cannot handle Christ being portrayed in this way any more than I could handle my wife being slandered in the name of fiction. But it goes beyond this. To slander another human is one thing, but to slander God is blasphemy and breaks the first two of the 10 commandments, whether done in the name of theology or fictional entertainment. Now I am not on a campaign against this film, but I do hope that those who love Christ will stop and consider what they allow themselves to be entertained by.

Hi Andy,
Just wanted to thank you for posting your thoughts on the Da Vinci Code. I’ve been going back and forth on whether I should see the movie or not. Ron Howard actually lives in my town, so everyone here has been anticipating the Da Vinci Code’s release. However, I think the points you make about the movie are absolutely valid…we shouldn’t support something that demoralizes our Creator and the love of our lives.
Thanks again, and I hope you and your family are doing well!

Good words, Andy. McKnight has a good outline about the Code on his blog: http://www.jesuscreed.org/?p=1084#comments.
Thanks for your prayers for me and my family through this transition time.
